C.aka District of Columbia, is the United States capital housing a compact city.  It was founded after the American Revolution as the seat of government for the newly independent country and was named after George Washington, the first President of the United States. It is defined by neoclassical monuments, museums and buildings. The most prominent buildings house the federal government’s three branches legislative: the Capitol, executive: White House and judicial: Supreme Court. The city hosts 177 foreign embassies as well as headquarters of many international lobbying groups, organizations, trade unions, non-profit and professional associations.
